A new way of living which combines “home” and “work” has been gathering attention lately. Many people are working from home or turning their hobbies into a side job.
Now, a new hotspot for this lifestyle has been born in a shopping street inside a large apartment complex in Chiba City. It is a “machiya” style building with a cafeteria on the ground floor and a sharehouse upstairs.
Experience this unique lifestyle where you can turn your hobbies and interests into a small business while blending into the community around you.
The station closest to the house is Yachiyodai station on the Keisei Main Line. It is 20 minutes on foot, but buses are available until late at night for smooth access to the station in only 7 minutes.
Express trains stop at the Yachiyodai station, from where you can get to Keisei Tsudanuma in 10 minutes, Keisei Funabashi in 12 minutes, and Keisei Ueno in 42 minutes.
If you change to the JR Sobu Line at Funabashi station, you can also access Tokyo station and other large stations smoothly.
Narita Airport is only 34 minutes from Yachiyodai without the need to change trains, so this area is also convenient for international travel and business trips.
Hanamigawa Danchi is Japan’s 3rd largest giant apartment complex. (Largest when measured by area!)
With about 10,000 residents, the housing complex is like a small town in itself.
The large-scale renovation of the area by the Danchi renovation project by MUJI×UR, which started in 2021, was finished March 2024. With new shops opening regularly, the modernized shopping street is growing livelier by the day.
THE Container, a handmade donut / used clothes shop. Mitoori Kobo, a shared atelier that offers DIY support and rents out tools. Dagashiya Egao, a nostalgic candy shop hand-built by students. Communita Hanamigawa, a future coworking space and support spot for small businesses. Local businesses and even students have joined hands with the local government to build a new, lively community.
With the Daily Cafeteria at its base, Danchi Table is a place of communication that transcends generations and country borders. Here, both residents and visitors can build a community that is “more than just a neighborhood.”
Danchi Table was built as a diverse gathering place with 4 main features: Daily Cafeteria, shared living room, shared bookstore, and sharehouse.
This sharehouse is not just a place to live in, but a place where you can express your interests by turning them into a small business. Rediscover your hobbies by becoming the owner of your own shop!
Open your own one-day curry restaurant or coffee stand, theater night bar for movie buffs, or weekend-only snack bar, to mention a few possibilities. Enjoy communication with your housemates on the 2nd floor and turn your interests into a side job on the 1st floor. This “machiya” lifestyle connects the residents and the neighborhood in a relaxed manner and creates a whole new way of living.
The sharehouse consists of 6 people living in two separate units within the apartment complex: the main building “omo” on the 2nd floor of the Danchi Table and the separate building “hana” for women only.
The shared living room in the main building can be used by all residents as a second living/dining room. Each unit has three rooms separated by gender.
“hana” features a large living room and kitchen with a dining room. The living area of “omo” is slightly more compact, with a dining room and kitchen on the 2nd floor, and the shared living room on the 1st floor available for use 24 hours a day.
With all-private rooms, you can enjoy both privacy and communication with the community around you.
From the sharehouse to the members-only shared living room. From the living room to the Daily Cafeteria, which people from all around the neighborhood can visit. Experience a new way of living deeply connected to the neighborhood and its surroundings. We are currently looking for Community Supporters to help us liven up the neighborhood together. Can I move in even though I cannot speak the local language?
Since Kizunaya is a share house where residents interact actively with each other, we receive many comments from residents that they are able to study the language by interacting actively with their housemates. Many residents have just begun their studies or are visiting Japan for the first time.
In particular, sharehouses with the concept of international exchange tend to have many people who are interested in foreign languages and cultures and want to speak English in their daily lives. Rest assured, many have actually improved their language skills since moving in!
How much does it cost to move in?
Initial fee of 44,000 yen and the first month's rent and utilities must be paid within 3 business days after the reservation is confirmed. If you wish to arrange for the purchase of a bedding set, a separate bedding fee of 10,000 yen will be charged. (Bedding set includes sheets, mattress pad, futon, duvet cover, pillow, pillowcase, and blanket.)
*Rent and utilities for the first month will be prorated from the date of move-in.
